Liberal, Kansas – Seward County stepped on Redskin Field against one of their top rivals in the Jayhawk Conference as they faced the Garden City Broncbusters for the second time this season with both sides exchanging goals as the Lady Saints scored off a corner kick in the first half while the Broncbusters scored in the second to end the contest with a 1-1 tie for both teams to earn a result.

SCCC went on the offensive straight from opening kick as the Lady Saints pushed the tempo to put pressure on their conference rival with Natoya Atkinson and Natasha Vasquez each getting early shot attempts off to try and get their team on the board. Dayra Dinarte for the second straight game received a penalty kick attempt after being fouled in the box but could not recreate her magic as she missed inches outside of the crossbar to remain scoreless in the game. Her team however did not remain scoreless for much longer as Garden City knocked the ball out of the back of the end zone to give Seward County a chance at a corner kick which Giuliani Granada sailed in towards the pin where Meredith Rosas rose up for a header that landed in the back of the net to give the Lady Saints a 1-0 lead with 25:00 to go. Through the rest of the first half Seward County held strong defensively with their back line allowing minimum shot attempts while Ashley Acevedo protected the goal from the little shots that were taken by the Broncbusters to head into halftime up 1-0.

In the second half it was hard for the Lady Saints to maintain their momentum from the first with Garden City charging down field to lay on a barrage of shots to try and tie up the score. Acevedo continued to rise up for multiple highlight saves while booting it out to try and help her team make a push of their own. Fifteen minutes into the second half however the Broncbusters finally snuck one into the goal to even up the score at 1-1 with 30:00 left to play. With both sides now on the scoreboard it was anyone’s game to take as both sides began to exchange possession of the ball to try and take the game over entering the final minutes of competition. Vasquez managed to send in a final shot attempt with 5:00 minutes left on the clock that landed a bit to high to keep Seward County’s total at one before the final buzzer sounded to end the matchup in a 1-1 draw.

The Lady Saints now sit at 2-9-4 overall on the 2024 season with a conference record of 1-8-3 in Jayhawk action. They will have the rest of the week off thanks to a bye in their conference schedule as they prepare for a trip down the road next Wednesday to face Dodge City in a 4:00 PM matchup on October 16th.
