EL DORADO, Kan. – The Seward County Community College softball team was drubbed on the road with a pair run-rule losses at Butler Community College, 12-3 and 11-0, on Wednesday.
The Lady Saints fell to 5-15 in the Jayhawk Conference and 11-23 overall. Seward has a quick turnaround, heading to Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Thursday for make-up games from earlier this season. The teams are playing at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
GAME ONE
Kynleigh Kirby was the lone bright spot for the Lady Saints in a 12-3 loss in five innings to the Grizzlies in the opener.
Kirby drove in all three runs for Seward with a 2-for-2 effort, a run-scoring single and a two-run homer. Kirby’s homer cut Butler’s lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Saints gave up eight runs in the bottom of the inning and the Grizzlies put the game away in five.
Jolee Limon had only other hit for SCCC with a single.
GAME TWO
With a non-existent offense, Seward suffered a similar fate in the second game with an 11-0 run-rule loss in five innings to Butler.
The Lady Saints managed only three hits again in being shut out. Emily Lane had a double and Clarissa DeLaFuente and Kynleigh Kirby each had a base hit for SCCC.
Seward pitching struggled with four Lady Saints giving up 11 runs on 10 hits and walking five over four innings.
