Lady Red Wins First Backyard Battle for the Bell

The Liberal Lady Redskins put it all together in a 56-32 win over the visiting Dodge City Lady Demons Friday night in the Big House. The Liberal girls win the first ever Backyard Battle for the Bell. Liberal led 37-13 at halftime on the way to the win.
Liberal led 14-7 after one before some of their best basketball of the season with a 23-6 advantage in the second quarter. Liberal led 49-25 after three. Their largest lead was 28 at 49-21.
Liberal shot 39 percent going 7-19 from three and 5-7 at the foul line. Liberal only had 10 turnovers. DCHS shot 31 percent and committed 21 turnovers. DC was 4-16 from three and 8-16 at the free throw line. Liberal out rebounded Dodge 35-28.
Hailey Contreras had 21 points, six steals, and five rebounds. She was Epic Touch Player of the Game. Shamari Lewis had 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Dodge City falls to 3-5 and 0-1 in the WAC. Liberal is 6-3 and 1-1 in the WAC. Liberal is 6-0 in the Big House. Liberal plays at Salina Central Thursday at 6pm in the Salina Invitational Tournament and airing on 1270 and 92.3.
