Lady Red Holds Down Hays

The Liberal Lady Redskins spent a lot of their practice time this week on defense.  That paid off Friday night at Liberal came to Hays and defeated the Lady Indians 55-38 in front of a big homecoming crowd in Hays.  The Lady Red held Hays to 24 percent shooting thanks to a stingy zone.

Liberal came out focused and ready to play taking a 6-0 lead and led 10-2 and 12-4 after one quarter.  Hays rallied as foul trouble mounted on the Lady Redskins.  Hays used a 7-0 run to make it 14-11 and came to within one at 16-15 and 18-17.  Hailey Contreras buried a right wing three pointer before halftime to give LHS a 22-17 lead at the half.  LHS led 31-19 and led 35-29 after three.  Hays never got any closer than within nine in the fourth quarter.

Liberal shot 41 percent while going 3-7 from three and 20-29 at the foul line.  Hays was 3-16 from three and 15-20 at the foul line.  Liberal only committed seven turnovers.

Hailey Contreras was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 17 points and five rebounds.  Rylie Hallman added 12 points and five rebounds.  Elle Hatcher dropped in nine.

Liberal wins their 11th in a row over Hays and improves to 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the WAC.  Hays is 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Great Bend Saturday night, February 18 on 1270 and 92.3.
