Lady Red Defense Leads them Past Junction City

The Liberal Lady Redskins won their seventh consecutive opening round game in sub state Wednesday night in the Big House.  LHS topped Junction City 46-16 to move to Saturday’s 6A sub state final with Wichita Southeast in the Big House at 6pm.  The Lady Red held the Lady Bluejays to 24 percent shooting and forced 29 turnovers.

Liberal got off to a slow offensive start.  After taking a 5-0 lead, Liberal’s lead was trimmed to 6-5.  Liberal took a 10-5 lead after one quarter.  The Lady Skins outpaced the Lady Jays 14-6 in the second quarter taking leads of 15-5 and 19-8 before leading 24-11 at halftime.  Liberal outscored Junction City 12-2 in the third quarter and 22-5 in the second half.  The game was played with a running clock for much of the fourth quarter.

While holding Junction City to 5-21 shooting and 1-8 from three point range, LHS shot 36 percent and went 5-11 from three.  Junction City was 5-8 from the foul line and Liberal was 7-9.

Hailey Contreras was the Epic Touch Player of the Game with 20 points.  Rylie Hallman dropped in eight points and five steals.  Shamari Lewis had seven points and seven rebounds.  Keyona Hall had six steals.  Elle Hatcher grabbed seven rebounds.

Liberal is 17-3 and Junction City is 3-18.  Liberal hosts 15-6 Wichita Southeast Saturday night at 6pm in the Big House.  The winner advances to state.  The Lady Buffaloes topped Dodge City 38-32 in Wichita.  The LHS-Southeast game will air on 1270 and 92.3 with Redskin Pregame at 5:45.
