Last year Meade made it to 2A state on a buzzer beater in the sub state final. Meade’s trip to state was short lived dropping a first round game to top seeded Oxford 51-49. A more potent Meade is back for more in 2012 after their 66-53 win over Kinsley Saturday night in Meade. The 16-7 Lady Buffaloes are still a number eight seed but a better version than last year’s team. This Meade team even defeated mighty Southwestern Heights 49-45 on Valentine’s Day in Meade.

Craig Batchman is the third year head coach of this group which focuses on an aggressive man-to-man defense.

Junior Kinzie Friesen leads the team at 15 points and eight rebounds per game. Freshman Tarah Wiens is the next leading scorer and rebounder at six points and six rebounds per game. Seniors Taylor Cook, Kalea DeVine, and Lissa Crain round out the starting five. Meade goes 10 deep with senior Tatum Hansen, juniors Alyssa rudzik and Hannah Miller, sophomore Mackenzie Moshier, and freshman Bailey Olvera seeing significant minutes.

Meade faces last year’s 1A champion Olpe who is 23-0 this season Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Manhattan.
