State v. Eric Hurd, reversing the defendant’s Seward County convictions of assault, battery, criminal threat, and failure to register, and remanding for new trials. Justice Nancy L. Moritz wrote the opinion for a unanimous court, finding the district court violated statute by joining two complaints against defendant and the error resulted in prejudice. The court also concluded one of the complaints was jurisdictionally defective, but the error did not prevent the state from recharging defendant.
