Knoll Makes Jayhawk West First Team

KSCB News - March 3, 2011 3:01 pm

Two Seward County freshman forwards were given Jayhawk
West All-Conference honors today as released by conference commissioner
Bryce Roderick. Ashlynn Knoll was a 1st Team All West performer after
finishing the conference season averaging 14.4 points and 6.9 rebounds
per Jayhawk West battle. Four times Knoll scored over 20 points in a
game and it seemed as if each time she upped her career high in the
category. In the Lady Saints heartbreaking loss to #5 Hutchinson at
home, Knoll gave it her all, scoring what was then a career high 23
points while also grabbing 10 rebounds and followed that up just four
days later with another career high, this time 27 points and 11 rebounds
in a win on the road at Colby. Her best game of the season however came
in a three point win for Seward late in the season against Garden City
when she became the only Jayhawk West Women’s player to score 30 points
in a conference game this season when she went off for 32 points and 8
rebounds in a must win game for the Lady Saints. Mariah Lee was named
an Honorable Mention All-Conference pick after a rookie season in which
she put up 11 points and 5 rebounds per Jayhawk West game. Five times
the freshman forward scored over 15 points in a game including a 19
point, 11 rebound effort against Cloud County and a 20 point game early
in the year against Pratt when she finished 7 for 9 shooting from the
floor in a Seward win. Conference champs Hutchinson would sweep the
conference awards as coach Jon Ontjes received Coach of the Year honors
while freshman Jackie Patterson collected both the Freshman of the Year
and the Player of the Year award. The Lady Saints Region VI Tournament
quarterfinal opponent Cowley would see their coach Todd Clark receive
Jayhawk East Coach of the Year and their point guard Ariani Silva garner
East Player of the Year.
