A fatality accident occurred Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:49 pm in Kiowa County. The accident was on Highway 54 milepost 98.3 Westbound. A 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 being driven by Donald Knier, 83, of Hugoton was Westbound on US 54 at approximately milepost 98.3 when it went left of the center line. A 2005 Ford F150 being driven by Tabitha Ward, 17, of Stratford Texas attempted an avoidance maneuver before colliding head on with The Knier vehicle. Both vehicles caught fire.

Knier and Ward both died as a result of the collision.
