Katie Horyna is MIAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

February 26, 2024 – Katie Horyna was named the MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the Lady Hornets following her performances in pair of Emporia State wins against Central Missouri and Lincoln last week.

Horyna shot 67% from the field as the Lady Hornets ran their win streak to three games and clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament.  She had a career high 20 points on six of nine shooting from the field while going eight of nine from the free throw line in ESU’s 73-59 win over Central Missouri.  She scored 11 points in the first half as the Lady Hornets built a 40-28 lead at the break.  She hit four straight free throws in the final 1:28 after the Jennies cut the lead to eight.

She finished the week with ten points, four rebounds and three assists in the Lady Hornets 73-59 win over Lincoln. She has now scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games for the Lady Hornets.

Emporia State will wrap up their regular season this week with a pair of road games against Pittsburg State and Washburn. The Hornets take on the Gorillas on Wednesday, February 28 at 5:30 pm. in Pittsburg, Kan.
