Kappelmann Up for Brook Berringer Award

Liberal senior quarterback Brooks Kappelmann is a finalist for the Brook Berringer Award.  It’s an award going to the top 11 man player in Western Kansas.   Kappelmann was the WAC Offensive Player of the Year.  J. Brooks passed for 2,356 yards and 25 touchdowns with five interceptions while going 142-232 (61%).  He rushed 121 times for 749 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He helped the Liberal Redskins go 8-2 which was their best winning percentage since 2003 and their most wins since 2004.

Berringer played quarterback at Nebraska in the mid 90’s and is a Goodland native.  He died in a plane crash in 1996.  There is a Brook Berringer Citizenship Team awarded to Nebraska football players who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide excellent leadership, involvement, and service.
