Kansas labor officials say the state added

14,800 jobs in October, helping to lower the unemployment rate to

6.4 percent.

The figure, released Tuesday, is down from 6.7 percent in

September and unchanged from 2009.

Eight of 11 industry sectors in Kansas added jobs in October.

The biggest gains came in government and public employment, which

added 6,500 jobs.

Professional and business services gained 3,400 jobs, the same

increase as education and health services. The Kansas labor

department says those education jobs are in private institutions

only.
