Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission Charges into FY25 with New Budget Allocations

Manhattan, KS (Sept. 6, 2024)– The Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission (Commission) met in
Manhattan, Kansas on Sept. 3 to consider funding allocations for its Fiscal Year 2025 budget,
beginning Oct. 1. The Commission, led by Chairman Brant Peterson of Stanton County, approved
$1,163,333 for its upcoming Fiscal Year 2025 to invest in portfolios for sorghum research,
domestic and foreign market development, education and promotion.

“Our Fiscal Year 2025 budget reflects the Commission’s commitment to the sorghum industry in
Kansas,” said Chairman Peterson. “By strategically investing in these areas, we aim to enhance
the profitability and sustainability of the sorghum crop for both producers and end-user
markets, and I look forward to what our organization will accomplish in the upcoming year.”

The funding allocations for the Commission’s upcoming fiscal year, which will run from Oct. 1,
2024, to Sept. 30, 2025, are outlined as follows:

Research: $635,217.00
Market Development: $123,616.00
Education: $104,500
Promotion: $50,000
Admin: $250,000

“The Commission continues to invest in projects focusing on profitability for sorghum growers
across the region,” said Adam York, Commission Administrator. “The Commission is prioritizing
advanced research to accelerate high-impact traits through molecular sorghum breeding
programs, diversifying sorghum’s domestic and foreign market development, and enhancing
sorghum’s perception among growers and consumers through signature educational and
promotional efforts.”
