Kansas farmers have planted about 70% of next year’s winter wheat crop.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Tuesday the wheat planting still lags behind the 77% in the ground at this time a year ago, as well as the 74% average.

Harvest of other crops is also making progress.

About 19% of the soybean harvest is in. Farmers have cut 40% of their corn and 8% of their sorghum in the state. About 8% of the sunflowers also are in the bin.
