Johnson’s Five Run Second Sinks Saints

The Seward County Saints began play in the eight team double elimination portion of the Region 6 Baseball Tournament.  The #2 ranked Johnson County Cavaliers used a five run second on the way to a 7-3 win over the Saints Wednesday afternoon at Eck Stadium in Wichita.  Seward will play the Fort Scott Greyhounds Thursday morning at 10am.

Connor Cox blasted a home run to left center in the second to give the Saints the 1-0 lead.  The Cavaliers loaded the bases with no outs in the second and scored five runs.  JCCC scored five runs on three hits.  Johnson scored two in the fourth to lead 7-1.  Trenton Rowan whistled a two RBI triple to center in the sixth to make it 7-3.  The Saints would strand six runners on base in the last four innings.

Johnson out hit the Saints 8-7 while Johnson committed the game’s only two errors.  Connor Cox was 2-2 and made it on base all four times.  Trent Gerber pitched four shutout innings in relief.

Johnson is 52-7 and has won 16 straight.  Seward is 33-25 and plays Fort Scott Thursday morning at 10 with Saints Dugout Show at 9:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
