Liberal senior quarterback J. Brooks Kappelmann was named Liberal’s Billy’s 10 Best Scholarship winner. Kappelmann was also named WAC Offensive Player of the Year on Friday. Kappelmann helped the Redskins go 8-2 for their most wins since 2004 and best winning percentage since 2003 (9-2). Kappelmann was 142-232 for 2,356 yards with 25 touchdowns and five interceptions. He rushed 121 times for 749 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Kappelmann has been involved in football, basketball, baseball, powerlifting, musical theater, WAC Leadership Team, and student council. He was class president his first three years of high school and vice president his senior year. He is founder and president of the All Are Welcome club at LHS. He was WAC Player of the Year in baseball and first team all state. He was first team all WAC in football as a junior and 2nd team all WAC as a sophomore.
Winners of the Billy’s 10 Best Scholarship were announced Thursday nights between 6-7 during the On the Sidelines Show at Billy’s on 102.7 and kscbnews.net. Each week a deserving senior was announced as a winner of a 350 dollar scholarship from Billy’s and 102.7.
