Hutchinson Sweeps Seward Softball

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Seward County Community College softball team was swept at Hutchinson Community College, 5-3 and 9-1, in Jayhawk Conference matchup on Wednesday.

The Lady Saints, who have lost four in a row, fell to 3-7 in conference play and 7-15 overall.

 

GAME ONE

Seward opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run triple Alyssa Morgan and took a 2-0 lead. Hutchinson answered back in the bottom of the inning with three runs to take a 3-2 advantage.

The Blue Dragons added another run in the fourth to open a 4-2 margin.

Morgan added another RBI with a single and the Lady Saints cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth. Seward could not get any closer as Hutchinson added another in the sixth for a 5-3 lead and the final score.

Morgan led the way for the Lady Saints with a 2-for-3 effort and drove in all three Seward runs. Anberlin Tatum added two hits and Jahlisa Klear had a hit and scored a run for Seward.

Kynleigh Kirby took the loss, allowing five runs on 12 hits and walked three in the complete game.

 

GAME TWO

Seward was down early and could not recover to Hutchinson in the nightcap.

Hutchinson scored three times in the first inning and added a run in the third and two more in the fourth to open a 6-0 advantage.

Kynleigh Kirby drove in Seward’s score with a solo shot in the sixth. Hutchinson scored three more times in the bottom of the inning to end the game on a run-rule, 9-1.

Kirby went 2-for-3 with RBI and also came in relief of starter Lynnette Hernandez, allowed six runs on nine hits and walked four.
