Saturday afternoon the Seward County Lady Saints made a trip out to Hutchinson for a battle between two of the top three teams in the KJCCC where unfortunately the Lady Saints saw their win streak come to an end as they fell to the Blue Dragons in a doubleheader sweep on the road.
Seward County put themselves on the scoreboard in the first inning with a 1-0 lead off an RBI double from Anberlin O’Dell to bring Aaliyah Guiterrez home to hold the lead over the Blue Dragons. Hutchinson responded quickly in the bottom of the inning with four runs to take the lead away from the Lady Saints 4-1 off a pair of RBI doubles. Gutierrez stepped back up to the plate in the top of the second and singled on a line drive to right field to bring Kaylin Jones home thanks to an error from the Blue Dragons and trim the gap to two at 4-2. Hutchinson however piled on to their lead as they pulled ahead 8-2 in the fourth off a two-run homer and a three-run homer in the fifth made it 12-2 to end game one early.
Alyssa Morgan helped start game two the same way the Lady Saints began game one with an RBI single to drive in Gutierrez before a two-run homer by Hutchinson gave them the lead 2-1. O’Dell continued her strong day at the plate with a big swing to launch one beyond the fences for a solo home run two pitches into the fourth and a sacrifice bunt drove in Samantha Gomez to give Seward County the led back at 3-2. Five runs in the bottom of the inning off a three-run homer from the Blue Dragons put SCCC back into a hole four runs deep and another score in the fifth made it five at 8-3. An RBI single from Jones trimmed the gap down by one to make it 8-4 but Seward County could not climb back as they fell in both games on the day.
The Lady Saints will now begin the final week of their 2024 regular season on Monday when they face the Colby Trojans on French Family Field in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM before facing the Dodge City Conquistadors for sophomore night on Wednesday.
