After an unprecedented run in Hugoton sports history, Andy Gillen has stepped down at Hugoton head girls basketball coach. He says he is looking forward to more time with family and watching his kids in their activities. Gillen has been coach at Hugoton the past five years amassing a record of 107-14 with two state championships. The Lady Eagles went 26-0 in 2016-17 to win the 3A state title. In 2014-15 they won the 4A division two title.
Hugoton has a recent record of futility in girls basketball as they won just seven games from 2006-07-2009-10 and lost 31 games in a row. But they have gone 26-0, 23-2, 22-2, 19-4, and 17-6 their past five years.
