Hugoton Man Convicted of Stabbing his Mother

HUGOTON, Kan. (AP) – A Hugoton man has been convicted of

stabbing his mother to death in August 2009.

A Stevens County jury on Thursday convicted 26-year-old Michael

Maestas Jr. of first-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old

Lorenza Maestas.

Stevens County officials said the woman was found dead in her

home after Maestas called the sheriff’s office and said he had

stabbed his mother.

The Garden City Telegram reports that sentencing is scheduled

for June 17.
