Hugoton Finishes as Runner Up as Lady Eagles Take Third

Wichita Collegiate used a 28-8 run to defeat the Hugoton Eagles in the 4A division 2 state championship game at Emporia Saturday night. The Spartans won state 68-49 over the Eagles who finish 23-2. Hugoton led the game in the third quarter 36-35. Parker Titus scored 21 points while Zack Leininger had 11 rebounds.
The Hugoton girls took third place with an impressive win over Girard 61-59 Saturday in Emporia. The Lady Eagles won despite shooting 36 percent. Hugoton trailed 33-29 at the half Amy Scott scored 21 and Laney Hoskinson scored 20. They scored all 15 of Hugoton’s fourth quarter points. One year after winning state, Hugoton follows that up with a 23-2 record and a third place finish at state.
