Hudson Rice is Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week

Liberal junior lineman Hudson Rice is this week’s Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week.  Rice is a 6’2″ 275 pound offensive and defensive lineman for the 5-0 Liberal Redskins.  Rice leads the Skins with 22 pancake blocks.  He plays guard on the Redskin offensive line which has paved the way for the Liberal offense to average 34 points per game and 442 yards per game.  The Skins average 5.7 yards per carry.  He also plays defensive tackle and made one of the biggest plays in Liberal’s 28-21 win at Garden City Friday night.  Face a 4th and goal from the five, Garden City’s quarterback ran right toward the pylon to try to score.  Despite playing down lineman, Rice sprinted to the far side of the field and shoved the Buffalo quarterback out of bounds shy of the goal line.  LHS would maintain the ball for the last almost seven minutes behind the blocking of Rice and his Redskin teammates.  Rice has a 4.0 GPA and is involved in powerlifting and NHS.  Rice and the Redskins host the homecoming game Friday night at 7pm at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex.  Redskin Pre-game begins at 6pm on 1270 and 92.3.
