Hot Homecoming Start Fades in Loss

The WAC losing streak has grown to 20 as the Liberal Redskins built a 14 point lead in the first half but lost 70-62 to the Great Bend Panthers Friday night in the Big House.  Liberal shot 31 percent in the loss.

The Redskins were hot early jumping to leads of 7-0, 10-3, 19-10, and led 21-16 after one quarter.  The Redskins led 26-16 and 29-18.  Liberal led 34-20 and 36-22 before Great Bend gained momentum with a 13-1 run to make it 37-35 Liberal at halftime.  A length of the court pass to Ian Premer resulted in a right baseline jumper at the buzzer to give Great Bend a 52-51 lead after three.  Great Bend out scored Liberal 18-11 in the fourth quarter.

James Fieser was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 20 points after going 11-12 at the foul line.  Zayden Martinez had 12 points and 11 boards.  Brooks Kappelmann had nine but fouled out.  Liberal shot 31 percent from the field but did make 7-17 from three.  Liberal was 19-24 at the foul line and Great Bend was 9-14.

The Panthers had won five in a row against Liberal and improve to 10-5 and 1-2 in the WAC.  Liberal falls to 5-10 overall and 0-3 in the WAC.  LHS is 2-5 at home.  The Skins play at Garden City Tuesday night at about 7:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
