Hooker Rallies Past Lady Red

The Hooker Lady Bulldogs shrugged off trailing 26-9 early on to rally past the Liberal Lady Redskins 63-57 before a packed Dog House Crowd Friday night in Hooker. Hooker took the lead with 4:24 remaining in the game and never looked back.
Liberal got off to a great start taking a 14-3 lead and led 19-7 after one quarter. LHS led 22-7 and led 26-9. In maybe the most key stretch of the game, Hooker used a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 26-21. Liberal led 29-21 and led 30-23 before Hooker’s Morgan Maloney banked in a three to beat the buzzer at the end of the first half to make it 30-26 at halftime. Liberal led throughout the third quarter but it was tight. It was 40-39 Hooker after three quarters. Liberal led 46-43 with 6:15 remaining in the game. Hooker took a 48-46 lead with 4:24 to play. Hooker led 50-46 with 3:30 remaining. Ashley Carrillo’s three pointer pulled Liberal to within one at 50-49. Hooker’s Hollie Stalder answered with a 3 to give Hooker a 53-49 lead. It was 53-51 Hooker with 2:45 remaining but a Lady Dog three point play made it 56-51 with 2:30 to play.
Hooker had the advantage at the foul line as they were 26-34 and Liberal was 16-22 at the free throw line. The rest of the statistics were pretty similar as Hooker shot 40 percent and were 5-12 from three point range while Liberal shot 37 percent and 5-22 from three. Liberal out rebounded Hooker 27-24 and LHS committed 12 turnovers compared to Hooker 10 turnovers.
Hollie Stalder led HHS with 18 and Mady Swayze had 16. Ashley Carrillo put in 25 points and Bree Horyna added 11 and 12 rebounds.
Liberal is 12-4 and Hooker is 21-1. Liberal hosts Hugoton for Senior Night Tuesday night at 6 with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270, 92.3, and KSCB and The Legend App.
