The #8 class 5A Hays Lady Indians handled the #6 class 6A Liberal Lady Redskins 77-50 Tuesday night in the Big House. It’s the most points Liberal has allowed since allowing 88 against Garden City in 2013. On offense, Liberal struggled to take care of the ball committing 26 turnovers in the loss.
Hays jumped all over Liberal in the first quarter scoring 25 points and leading 25-12 after one. LHS cut the lead to five at 34-29 but the Lady Indians recovered to lead 38-31 at halftime. Hays out scored Liberal 21-11 to lead 59-42 after three.
Liberal was 4-16 from three point range and 8-14 from the foul line. Hays was 5-13 from 3 and 15-19 at the foul line. Shamari Lewis led Liberal with 19 points and was Epic Touch Player of the Year. Kylie Rhine scored 10 and Kamilah Delgado had nine.
It’s the first time Liberal has allowed over 70 points since allowing 71 against Holcomb in the opener of the 2013-14 season. Hays wins their third straight over Liberal and is 4-0 and 1-0 in the WAC. Liberal is 2-1 and 0-1 in the WAC. LHS plays Elk City Friday at 3:20 with Redskin Pre-game at 3:05 on 1270 and 92.3.
