Hay Stack Fire Burns Through the Night

On Wednesday, July 24th, at 3:45pm Seward County Fire Department was dispatched to multiple hay stacks on fire along with equipment at Road V and Road 12 , South of Kismet. Units arrived on scene to find a loader and three large stacks fully involved. Employees were able to move existing non burned stacks to a safe area. With wind conditions in play, firefighters set up a perimeter and protected neighboring properties from the fire. The department responded with 2 chief officers, 2 engines, 2 water tenders, 1 attack truck, and 6 firefighters. Crews continue to remain on scene to ensure a level of protection until the fire danger has decreased and can be turned over to the property owner. Roads are still closed in the area. No injuries were reported, cause of the fire is mechanical failure in equipment, no damage value was available at press time.
