There was one escape route. A right corner buzzer beating three pointer by Keyona Hall gave the Liberal girls a 43-42 overtime win at Guymon Friday night. The win extended Liberal’s winning streak against the Lady Tigers to 14 games and gave LHS a win on a night when Liberal struggled with turnovers, shooting, and rebounding.
The game was tied 8-8 after one quarter. Liberal took a 16-11 lead late in the first half but Guymon clawed back to make it 16-15 Liberal at halftime. The game was tied 25-25 after three. LHS led 28-25 early in the fourth quarter. Free throws by Shamari Lewis gave the Lady Redskins a 30-29 lead. Guymon claimed a 33-30 lead with 3:10 to play. Rylie Hallman buried a clutch left corner three to tie the game at 33-33 with 1:23 to play. The Lady Tigers led 35-33 with 40.5 seconds remaining. Keyona Hall’s drive down the middle of the lane resulted in a lay up to tie the score a 35-35. LHS fouled Guymon with .3 seconds remaining but Guymon missed the free throw to send the game to overtime tied at 35-35. A Hallie West jumper made it 40-38 Liberal with 1:35 to go in overtime. Guymon’s Tazhia Watson scored to tie the game at 40-40. A Guymon free throw with 18 seconds left made it 42-40 GHS. Hall’s right corner three beat the buzzer for the Liberal win. The made three gave LHS a 2-15 night from three point range.
Hallie West was the Epic Touch Player of the Game with nine points and eight rebounds. Rylie Hallman scored 10. Shamari Lewis and Elle Hatcher had five points and seven rebounds a piece. Guymon’s Tazhia Watson scored 20 points.
Liberal is 10-2 and Guymon is 9-7. Liberal hosts Hooker on Tuesday at 6pm with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3. Guymon hosts Woodward Tuesday night.
