Guymon Firefighters were alerted to an early morning fire Saturday at 104 N. Academy. Station 2 Engine arrived on scene within 4 minutes and found flames and smoke from the outside of the house. Firefighters were quick to start attacking the fire and a search and rescue team was sent inside the house. The search team quickly found a man asleep in bed and assisted him to the safety of an awaiting ambulance crew. OJ Herrera stated, “The house was full of smoke when we found him, it was good we got there when we did.” The man was checked out by EMS and was cleared of any injuries. Firefighters worked until 6:30 doing overhaul and getting equipment and trucks back in service. Lane Duer said, “There was some damage to the home, but everyone went home safely including the resident, so it was a good day.” The damage was estimated at $25,000.
