The City of Guymon on Tuesday issued a proclamation banning the discharge of any sort of fireworks within the city limits of Guymon this Independence Day season, and has officially canceled the city’s annual 4th of July fireworks display due to the extreme ongoing drought conditions in Guymon.
The Guymon Police Chief said Tuesday that the city’s police officers will enforce the ban and will issue citations as deemed necessary.
According to the National Weather Service, Guymon Municipal Airport has received 1.55 inches of precipitation since Jan. 1, 2011. The normal for the same time frame is about 8.74 inches. This dry spell began in earnest in September 2010.
