The Liberal softball team led 6-3 in the top of the seventh inning Monday night at National Beef Sports Complex. They needed three outs for a big WAC victory. That’s when the Great Bend Panthers scored five runs to lead 8-6 on the way to an 8-7 win over the Redskins. It’s the second one run loss of the season for Liberal against Great Bend.
Great Bend scored first plating single runs in the first and second. Liberal scored in the second. LHS seemingly took hold of the game with three in the fourth and two in the fifth to lead 6-2. Great Bend chased across a run in the sixth to make it 6-3 and scored five in the seventh. Liberal scored one in the seventh.
Liberal out-hit Great Bend 11-10. It was a sloppy game on defense as Liberal committed six errors and GBHS had four errors. Jenna Ormiston pitched the distance and allowed two earned runs without a walk. Lizzy Mannel was 2-4 with a home run and three RBI’s. Marypher Lopez, Zoe Torres, and Maedeen McClure had two hits a piece.
Great Bend is 7-6 overall and 6-3 in the WAC. Liberal falls to 2-10 and 0-6 in the WAC. Liberal hosts TMP Thursday at 4pm at the National Beef Sports Complex.
