Great Bend Gets by Liberal Girls

Great Bend’s best player hit a lay up on the right side of the lane to loft the Lady Panthers past the Lady Redskins of Liberal Tuesday night at Panther Fieldhouse in Great Bend.  Sadie Spray hit the shot with 1.2 seconds left to snap Liberal’s 15 game win streak against GBHS.

Liberal led 8-7 after one.  Great Bend took a 13-8 lead before LHS came back to lead 15-14.  Great Bend led 18-15 at the half.  The Lady Panthers led 26-23 after three and led 29-23.  Liberal rallied and Elle Hatcher tied the game at 33-33 on a put back.  Spray’s shot spun around the rim and in to give Great Bend the 35-33 lead with 1.2 seconds remaining.  Liberal did not get another shot up.

It was a grudge match as Liberal shot 28 percent and Liberal shot 26 percent.  LHS was 3-18 from three and GBHS was 1-8.  GBHS was 8-14 a the foul line and Liberal was 2-5.

Great Bend is 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the WAC.  Liberal falls to 12-6 overall and 3-3 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Garden City for Senior Night Tuesday night at 6pm with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
