Goldsberry Holds Bethany at Bay

imageLiberal’s Blake Goldsberry made a bid to toss Liberal’s first complete game Friday early evening.  The KU righty pitched into the ninth in scorching Oklahoma heat at the Liberal Bee Jays topped the Bethany Bulls 4-1 in a game which started at 5.  Temperatures at first pitch with 99 with heat indices into the 100’s.

Goldsberry pitched 8 and 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and no walks.  Lee Busto pitched 2/3 for his third save.  Liberal scored all four runs in the sixth.  Cody Bogart doubled to lead off the inning.  Marc Mumper singled.  Kyle Knauth grounded out to drive home a run.  Blake Brewster was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Blake Jenkins singled home a run.  The BJ offense needed a pick me up after placing runners on first and third with not outs the previous inning and failing to score.

Liberal is 10-6 in the Jayhawk League’s second half.  They trail Hays by one game as the Larks beat Derby 10-2 in Derby.  Liberal plays at 3-12 Bethany Saturday at 5 with the Dugout Show at 4:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
