Garden City Takes Pitcher’s Dual Over Skins

There were a combined five hits in a game which pitted two aces opposing each other on the mound Tuesday night in Garden City.  Garden City’s Iziah Salinas pitched into the seventh allowing one hit and one earned run.  Brooks Kappelmann went six innings allowing four hits but no earned runs.  But Liberal committed three costly errors paving the way to Garden City’s 4-1 win over the Redskins at Lightner Field in Garden City Tuesday night.

The Buffaloes scored a run in the third one hit and two errors.  GCHS scored three runs in the fifth after a two out error.  The Redskins scored in the sixth when Fidel Avila was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on ground out.  Landon Martinez ripped an RBI double to right center to make it 4-1.  Liberal made it interesting in the seventh as Salinas was lifted from the mound due to the pitch count.  Two of the first three hitters walked bringing the tying run to the plate twice.  But Liberal couldn’t come through.

GCHS out-hit LHS 4-1 and Liberal committed three errors.  Brooks Kappelmann pitched six innings and did not allow an earned run.  He struck out three and walked one.  He falls to 4-1 on the mound.

Garden City is 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the WAC.  Liberal is 7-4 and 3-4 in the WAC.  The Redskins host Wichita North Friday at 3pm at National Beef Sports Complex.
