Fourth of July Fizzles on BJ’s

Dodge City was due. After six straight losses and three straight losses to Liberal, the Dodge City A’s scored two in the first and seven in the second to take the fizzle out of a big crowd at Brent Gould Field. The A’s (12-14, 6-13) pounded Liberal 16-4 Monday night.

The loss snaps a seven game Jayhawk League winning streak and stretch of 10 wins in their last 11 games. Starter Robbie Ingram didn’t make it out of the second inning after allowing nine runs. San Diego’s Nick Youpel pitched four and two-thirds and allowed one run on a controversial balk call which resulted in the ejection of BJ manager Mike Silva. Dallas Baptist’s Tyler Rockafellow pitched two scoreless innings before the A’s erupted again in the ninth for six against Justin Jorgenson.

San Diego’s Reyn Nagamine was 2-4 with an RBI in the loss.

Liberal is 22-7 overall and leads the Jayhawk at 12-6. Haysville and Derby are both 12-8.

Liberal plays at Hays Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. The games will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
