Foundation Announces Party Auction Date and Theme

By Rachel ColemanThis year’s theme for the SCCC Foundation party auction promises to be vibrant.

The Seward County Community College Foundation has announced plans for its annual party auction, slated for Saturday, Sept. 25. The in-person event with live music, a catered meal, complimentary beer and wine, and the silent and live auctions, returns after the disruption of COVID-19 in 2020 with the theme “Festival of Colors.”

Sarah Thompson, Associate Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement, will head up this year’s Foundation auction.

“We chose this theme to reflect our community, which is a kaleidoscope of colors, languages, food, music, and cultures,” she said. “It’s also a nice coincidence that it falls within Hispanic Heritage Month, so our decorations and theme reflect the beautiful Mexican art and traditions that we’ve come to love here in Liberal.”

Over the years, the auction has become a standard local event that gives people the opportunity to have a great evening with friend while supporting a good cause, said Thompson.  The Foundation is currently soliciting contributions for the auction portion of the event.

“Proceeds from the party auction fund scholarships and programs at the college, and the level of support from the community through donations is a key factor.”

It’s also fun, Thompson noted.

“We love seeing the contributions come in, whether they are handmade quilts, original art, services from local professionals, it’s a sampling of creativity and entrepreneurship at the local level,” she said.

To donate a new or hand-crafted item, contact the SCCC Foundation Office, located in the Student Union mezzanine on the SCCC main campus.

“We’ll be happy to stop at your place of business, pick up items, or even shop on your behalf with cash donations,” said Thompson.
