Five From Liberal Wrestling Club Make State

Five Wrestlers Advance to State Tournament, Armendariz places at 6U State
On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Liberal Wrestling Club attended the District 4 Tournament
in Hays, KS. The top four placers of each weight group advance to the State Tournament in
Topeka, Ks this weekend.
Five Liberal Wrestling Club members will advance to the tournament. Sofia Torres took
second in the 8U Girls 60 division. Alex Rodriguez placed fourth in the 12U Boys 88 division.
We had three girls wrestle in the high school girls division. Keirsie Carlile (100) and Isabela
Gutierrez (105) both took first, while Hayleen Martinez (190) took second.
Others who attended the District tournament were Uriah Andrade, Aiden Montoya, Ian
Holcomb (6th), Elias Holcomb (6th), Julian Gonzalez, Jonathan Barragan (6th), Javonte
Andrade (6th), and Jayden Heronemus (6th).
On Sunday, March 5, 2023, two wrestlers attended 6U State in Mulvane, KS.
Alyvia Holcomb went 2-1 with one pin.
Isaac Armendariz took 5th place.
“He went into the tournament with a 12-0 record, which is a huge accomplishment for a
6U competitor. He had a very large bracket and fought so hard! We are very proud of Isaac and
all he accomplished this season,” Coach Krista Holcomb stated.
