Fatality Accident in Meade County Claims Cincinnati Man

An fatality accident occurred Thursday morning at approximately 8:15am a half a mile east of Meade KS on US Highway 54. The accident happened when a 2004 BMW being driven by Joshua Barnes,21, of Cincinnati OH was heading west and was passing a 2023 Mack Truck being driven by Christopher Bables, 43 of Kansas City. A 2006 Peterbilt semi being driven by Mark West, 46, of Liberal was Eastbound around a curve in the road.Barnes BMW impacted West’s Peterbilt near the South fog line in an offset head on collision. The BMW rotated counterclockwise and impacted Bables Mack Truck on the driver’s side saddle tank. The BMW was redirected South from the roadway and came to rest facing South. The Peterbilt left the roadway towards the north and overturned coming to rest on the passenger side facing north. The Mack Truck came to a controlled stop on the westbound shoulder facing west.

Barnes died at the scene and a passenger in his vehicle, Hudhaifa I Groomes,23, of Dayton OH was taken to Meade District Hospital with serious injuries. West and Bables were not injured.
