Fast Start Enough for Saints to Hold Off Northwest Tech

The Seward County Saints beat the Northwest Tech Mavericks 78-74 Wednesday night in the Green House. Seward jumped to a 27-6 lead and never trailed for their first win since February 11.
The Saints came out ready to play jumping to leads of 14-2, 18-3, and 27-6. The Saints found many of their starters in foul trouble late in the first half as the Mavericks crept back to within four at 43-39. The Saints led 46-39 at the half. Northwest Tech tied the game at 51-51 with 15:39 to play. The Saints led 67-60 before the Mavericks used a 7-0 run to make it 67-67 with 5:25 to go. The Saints led just 70-69 before a key spinning lay up by Bee McCrary to make it 72-69 with 1:47 to play. Seward led 74-70 with 25.9 seconds left.
Seward shot 42 percent and Northwest Tech shot 44 percent. Seward out rebounded Northwest Tech 35-30. SCCC made 7-15 three pointers and Northwest Tech was 6-20. Seward was 23-29 at the foul line and the Mavericks were 22-36.
Sam Henderson led the Saints with 21 points and five rebounds. Mike Rivera had 14 points and six rebounds. Kevon Cooper had 11 points.
Seward is 3-7 and Northwest Tech is 1-11. Seward plays at Pratt Saturday night at 7:30 on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
