One day after an opening win, the Liberal boys basketball team came crashing down to earth in their home gym. The visiting Emporia Spartans blew out the Liberal Redskins 71-18 Friday night in the Big House. LHS scored two points in the second half and did not have a field goal in the second half.
The Redskins actually jumped out in front of the Spartans 6-2. But Emporia used a barrage on run out lay ups to lead 15-10 after one and 40-16 at the half. Emporia out scored LHS 31-2 in the second half. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Emporia connected on 9-20 three point attempts and LHS was 1-16 from three point range.
Emporia is 1-0 and Liberal is 1-1. The Redskins open WAC play against Hays Tuesday night at about 7:45 in the Big House on 1270 and 92.3.
