Seward County women’s soccer kicked off a two-game road trip this weekend with a Saturday matchup against #10 Kansas City Kansas where the Blue Devils scored two early goals in the first ten minutes but were held silent the rest of the way but could not be matched by the Lady Saints who fell on day one of their trip 2-0.
SCCC was in an uphill battle within the first few minutes of the contest as the Blue Devils snuck past the Lady Saints’ back line for a quick goal to take a 1-0 lead before sinking in their second at the 10:00 minute mark to make their lead 2-0. Through the next 80:00 minutes KCK was held scoreless by Seward County’s defense as Kiara Leiton and Abigail Artley forced the Blue Devil’s into multiple turnovers to help push the tempo for the Lady Saints. SCCC’s defense was not the only group standing strong as KCK’s defense provided the same stability for the Blue Devils to keep the Lady Saints to very few shot opportunities. Natasha Vasquez was able to get a shot on goal off past the back line of KCK while Dayra Dinarte powered in a pair of her own but could not connect in the back of the goal to keep Seward County blank in a 2-0 loss to start the weekend.
The Lady Saints now fall to 2-6-3 on the 2024 campaign while dropping to 1-6-2 in Jayhawk conference action. Seward County will be back in action in less than 24-hours when the Lady Saints finish their nonconference schedule against Metropolitan with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM.
