Liberal, Kansas — Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) is pleased to announce that as of August 1, 2024, Dr. Knudsen will be joining our team. Despite this transition, his office will remain at its current location, ensuring that his patients continue to receive the same high standard of care they have come to expect.

Dr. Knudsen’s distinguished career began in the United States Army, where he served from 1969 to 1986, with active duty starting in 1976 after graduating from medical school at the University of Iowa. He served at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and Ft. Riley in Kansas. During the Vietnam War, Dr. Knudsen remained stateside in the reserves while he continued his education.

Dr. Knudsen’s connection to Liberal started in 1982, when a nurse from a clinic in Wichita suggested he consider working with Dr. Norvan Harris in Liberal, Kansas. Dr. Knudsen initially visited Kansas to cover Dr. Harris’ practice and has remained at the location Dr. Harris built on 15th Street since 1983. Despite other opportunities, Dr. Knudsen chose to stay in Liberal, where he feels deeply connected to the community.

“Here I have the opportunity to touch a lot of lives,” said Dr. Knudsen. “This is my home. I love what I do, and I am very blessed to live in such a caring community.”

Dr. Knudsen has delivered over 22,000 babies throughout his career and is excited about the transition to Southwest Medical Center. “I look forward to continuing my practice with the support of Southwest Medical Center,” said Dr. Knudsen. “This change allows me to focus even more on providing the best care possible to my patients.”

Amber Williams, CEO of Southwest Medical Center, expressed her enthusiasm for Dr. Knudsen’s transition. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Knudsen join our team,” said Williams. “His dedication to patient care and his deep roots in the community align perfectly with our mission. We look forward to supporting him as he continues to serve the residents of Liberal and the surrounding areas.”
