DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) – Dodge City’s brand new record for most

100-degree days in a year stood for exactly two days.

The National Weather Service says Thursday’s high at the Dodge

City airport was 106 degrees, making it the 44th day this year that

the temperature has reached 100 or higher.

On Tuesday, the city broke a 77-year-old record when the

temperature topped out at an even 100 degrees.

The city’s old record for most 100-degree days in a year was 42,

set back in 1934 – one of the hottest, driest summers of the Dust

Bowl.

Friday could bring still another record for Dodge City. As of

Thursday night, the Weather Service was forecasting a high Friday

of 102, before a relatively mild weekend with highs only in the low

90s.
