The Saints seemed to get the message. On any defensive breakdown, SCCC head coach Bryan Zollinger made immediate substitutions. The Saints won the game handily 110-60 over the Panhandle State JV. Seward’s Chris Chaney says the Saints will change their ways. "We had a little lack of focus on defense last week," the Liberal native said after scoring a career high nine points. "This week we had a very hard week of practice and all we did was fly around and play defense for about 2 and a half hours and coach wasn’t going to back down. We had a lot of subs in and out today and he’s not backing down so we’ve got to keep the intensity up all year."
Seward forced 32 turnovers and shot 55 percent in the win. Marquez Patterson scored 15 while Rafriel Guthrie had 14 and Irvin Hollinger added 13 points and eight rebounds. Phil Hawkins added 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Seward is 4-1 and hosts 1-6 Labette County Saturday night at 8 p.m. on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
