Two days after seeing their 2016 season come to an end, there was a bright spot for a pair of Seward County Lady Saints on Friday as middle infield combo Brittany Corrales and Kennedy Brunson were named 1st Team All-Jayhawk West and 1st Team All-Region VI.

Corrales was named 1st Team All-Jayhawk West at shortstop for the Lady Saints. Corrales had a big year in her only season in Liberal, leading the team with 52 RBI’s and 24 extra base hits in 2016. She hit .396 which was second on the team, ripping 14 doubles, three triples, and seven home runs, all of which were second on the team as well. She started all 58 games for Seward as a sophomore, putting together 23 multi-hit games. She had three, four hit games this season, including a 4-4 performance early in the year against Northeastern in which she drove in a career high seven for the Lady Saints.

Putting together a big sophomore year of her own, Brunson was also named a 1st Team All-Jayhawk West performer this season. Brunson hit .389 while leading Seward with 32 stolen bases this season. Hitting out of the leadoff spot for Seward, she finished second on the team with 46 runs scored and also drove in 20. Brunson had 20 multi-hit games in her 49 played in 2016 and had a season high 12 game hit streak late in the year. Brunson’s 32 stolen bases this season rank 4th in a single season in school history while her 54 career bags are 3rd most.

Corrales and Brunson were the Lady Saints only two All-Jayhawk selections. League and Region VI Champs Butler led the conference with nine selections, all 1st Team, while runner-up Barton had eight total.
