A 39-year-old man has died following a crash on a county road early on New Year’s Day.

The accident happened at around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday on Hamilton County Road 31 about a mile east of the Colorado state line. A Dodge pickup was heading west on the gravel road when it went off the roadway to the right and down an embankment toward a bridge. The pickup collided head-on with the embankment on the west edge of the bridge.

The driver, Toby Kandt of Holly, Colorado, was taken to an area hospital where he died later Wednesday morning. He was not wearing a seat belt.
