Brown and Nguyen Gain Two Wins at Emporia

The LHS tennis boys played tough on Tuesday. Results weren’t the best on paper but on the court they were decent for the most part. As a team, Liberal finished 4th. St Thomas Aquinas finished 1st, followed by Mill Valley, Kansas City-Piper and Liberal. Manhattan, Emporia and Great Bend also competed.
Singles – Jackson Dodge went 0-3. He just couldn’t get a win yesterday.
Singles – Emmanuel Garcia who has never played singles but his partner wasn’t available, went 1-2. But, he proved a lot to himself by playing the #1 and #3 seeds extremely tough and closer than anyone else there. He also beat Great Bend’s #1 guy 8-1.
Doubles – Parker & Daniel finished 2-2. They easily beat Manhattan and Great Bend but lost to both St Thomas Aquinas teams. They lost 8-6 to Aquinas’ best team and gave everything they had. They were exhausted after that effort and lost to their #2’s, who they beat earlier this season 8-1. Still proved they can hang in there with one of the best teams in the state.
Doubles – Ryan Zhang & Quinn Brown finished 1-2 in their first varsity doubles action together. They lost to Emporia, battled Manhattan pretty tough and easily won over Great Bend.
The boys played the top teams close and even beat some. But, I think beating the WAC team, Great Bend so easily all around has proven that playing these tougher tournaments has they guys battle tested and ready for all post season matches, starting with WAC on Monday.
