Broncos Even Series with Bee Jays

Liberal stranded 12 runners on base and left the bases loaded twice in a 4-3 loss to the El Dorado Broncos Tuesday night at Brent Gould Field. The Broncos move back into first in the Jayhawk League North.

The Bee Jays scored first with a run on two hits by Gavin Wehby and Jaylen Hubbard. Chase Chambers reached on an error and drove home Wehby. A double play ended the inning. El Dorado scored three runs on four hits and two BJ errors against starter Jerrott Gray. Liberal loaded the bases with no outs in the third but did not score in the third as Foster flied to right and Broncon Clayton Dalrymple threw out Luke Sherley trying to score for a double play as the BJ’s were held scoreless in the inning. Liberal plated a run in the fifth as Wehby singled home Jared Huber but Sherley was thrown out at third on the play and Liberal would not score again in the inning. Liberal tied the game in the sixth as Troy Labrie laced an RBI double inside the first base bag. Liberal had runners on second and third and one out and bases loaded two outs and did not score again. Liberal loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh but a diving catch by El Dorado left fielder Tyler Sutherland prevented Liberal from scoring. The Broncos scored in the eighth after Liberal walked the first two batters of the inning. Liberal stranded runners in the eighth and the ninth.

Jerrott Gray gave Liberal a solid outing going 6.1 innings with two earned runs, seven strikeouts, and one walk. Joel Kuhnel pitched two scoreless innings. Gavin Wehby and Jaylen Hubbard had two hits a piece.

Liberal has lost four of their last five and is 21-12 and 17-10 in the Jayhawk while El Dorado is 20-9 and 17-9 in the Jayhawk.

The two teams play Wednesday night at 7 at Brent Gould Field with a 6:45 Dugout Show on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Yancy Crane Service is the buyout sponsor.
