According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, traffic changes along U.S. 83 in Garden will begin Monday, April 7, along U.S. 83 bridge over U.S. 50/50B in Garden City.
Bridge repair work will take place in two phases. During the first phase, traffic in both directions will be shifted to the northbound lanes. The loop ramp from U.S. 50 to southbound U.S. 83 will be closed beginning April 14. The closure will be in effect throughout the duration of the project.
A marked detour will utilize the northbound U.S. 83 ramp, then north to K-156/ Kansas Avenue and then back south on U.S. 83. Motorists should expect speed reduction and minimal delays. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place. As the project progresses, KDOT will release additional information regarding Phase 2 and its anticipated traffic impacts.
Bridges Inc., of Newton is the contractor on this $1.2 million project that is expected to be completed by the end of November, weather permitting.
