Liberal High School Welcomes New Head Cross Country Coach

Liberal High School is excited to announce the appointment of Brianna Stewart as the new Head Coach for the Cross Country team. Coach Stewart brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in sports coaching and management. She will also serve as an assistant coach for the girls’ basketball team and as the Interim Alternative Education teacher at Liberal High School.

Stewart graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a Bachelor’s in Human Performance and Sport and a Minor in Health. After graduation, she held a Graduate Assistant basketball coach position at West Texas A&M University for the 2020-21 season. In addition to her collegiate-level experience, Stewart was a top 15 runner in Cross Country during her high school career and earned two state championship titles in basketball while attending Canyon High School in Canyon, Texas, during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

After her time at Canyon High School, Coach Stewart served as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Otero College for the 2021-2022 season. Her role at Otero College further solidified her expertise in coaching and athlete development. In 2022, she advanced her career by taking on a Graduate Assistant position at Utah State, where she continued to refine her coaching skills and academic knowledge.

“I look forward to working with Coach Stewart as she brings experience in coaching at a high level, and her ability to build relationships with students at Liberal High School this summer will help her transition into her new role,” said Kerri Miles, Liberal Activities Director.

Coach Stewart expressed her enthusiasm for joining Liberal High School: “I’m thrilled to join the LHS cross country team and contribute to its success this season. The opportunity to work with athletes and help them reach their full potential is exciting. I’m eager to bring my energy and expertise to the team and see us achieve great things,” said Stewart.

Coach Stewart believes deeply in the power of authenticity and personal connection, stating, “Originality can only arise when you are connected to yourself….It is an act of honesty.” This philosophy will undoubtedly inspire the Cross Country team to strive for both personal and athletic excellence.
