Bottom Falls Out in Both Firsts at Cloud

Two frustrating first innings paved the way for the Seward baseball team to drop a pair of games at Cloud Sunday afternoon and evening.  The Cloud Thunderbirds scored nine in the first in game one and eight in the first inning of game two in a sweep of the Saints at the Concordia Sports Complex.   Cloud beat Seward 13-2 in five innings and 15-4 in seven innings to take the series 3-1 over SCCC for the second straight season.

In game one, the Saints came out ready to hit.  With temperatures in the 40’s and the win blowing out, SCCC scored two in the first.  Cameron Cartwright singled and Elijah Bear whistled a double off the wall in left center.  Tristan Curless singled home a run with a ground ball through the left side and Jarron Wilcox hit a sac fly to right.  The T-Birds responded with nine runs 10 hits, and five extra base hits in the first.  The Thunderbirds added one in the second and third innings before scoring two in the fourth to set up the run rule.  Bo Jacob Garza was the Epic Touch Player of the Game with eight strikeouts in 3 and 1/3 innings.

In game two, Cameron Cartwright led off the game with a home run to left.  Cloud scored eight in the first but only two runs were earned as the Saints committed two errors.  The Saints scored three in the third to make it 8-4.  Elijah Bear hit a prodigious home run to right.  Mason Hagel-Pitt whistled a two RBI double over the center fielder to make it 8-4.  Seward coughed up one in the third, one in the fifth, and five in the sixth.  Cloud out hit the Saints 17-5.
